Weekly Photo Challenge: Together

This week topic is Weekly Photo Challenge: Together which is my third attempt to participate. In this picture I provide wine together with its holder. Also, we can see the object together with its reflection. Hope you enjoy it. :-) I shoot it using my Canon EOS 40D and Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens.

  8. Lovely reflection! I didn’t notice the bendy bottle until Rhonda mentioned it, but now that I see it, that part makes it even better!

    • Thank you, Josy, for visiting my blog and for your honest comment. Glad you like my photo. 🙂 However, may I know why you like the bendy bottle part? Shouldn’t it be have the equal proportion?

      • From what I’ve seen, your aesthetic is a sort of studio-perfect look, so I can understand why you wouldn’t like that “flaw.” But to me, as a professional 3D animator and amateur photographer, the whole beauty of real photography vs. fake 3D models is that reality is flawed; if I want a perfect shot of a wine bottle, why not do it with CG? It’s the little unexpected surprises of photography that amuse and delight— as in life!

        In this shot, it’s well-lit, well-exposed, an interesting subject, blah blah blah. A good photograph. But— please forgive me, and note that I say this only to make a point— common. Usual. Normal. Nothing special. The part that MAKES it special, to me, is that almost unnoticeable asymmetry between the bottle and its reflection. It’s a subtle detail that (a) when the viewer eventually notices it, he/she feels like he/she has been let in on an inside joke, (b) can be interpreted as a concept piece (reality vs. what we see in our reflections… especially if you were to push the distortion a little further), and (c) is the sort of detail that a CG artist probably wouldn’t have thought to include; you’d probably only get this effect in a real studio with real lights and real wine bottles.

        And as “flaws” in photos go, this is way cooler than, say, an errant lens flare. 😉

        Again, this is my personal amateur view, and I know a lot of professional studio photographers don’t share my opinion about this. 🙂
